They defeated Tottenham and now knocked Barcelona out of the race… Atletico Madrid are now in the Champions League semi final !

After securing a solid 2-0 win at camp Not, Barcelona proved to still have some fight left when meeting in the second leg of this tie. However, ultimately lost after a 3-2 win on aggregate. For the first time in 9 years, Atletico will appear in the last four, next facing either Arsenal or Sporting CP…

Just four minutes into the match and Atleti already conceded one goal to Lamine Yamal, the second followed just 20 minutes later… the comeback now resulted in a draw with a 2-2 on aggregate. However, before the end of the first half, Atletico once again secured their lead with a flash goal from Lookman. With both sides aggressively attacking in the second half with a VAR disallowed goal from Barca and a red card leaving them with only 10 men, Atletico kept their defence strong and ultimately winning on aggregate.

Atletico managed to subsequently beating Barca in the Champions League quarter finals for the 3 time, last in 2015/25 and 2013/14. This was also Barcelona’s 7 defeat in their 10 last appearances during the quarter finals. With now only LaLiga being the sole focus for Barcelona, securing a domestic title. Although Atletico continue their road to Budapest, they also have the Copa del Rey final on Saturday 18th against Real Sociedad in Sevilla.
