PSG once again lift the Champions League trophy, back to back following last season victory !
After finally winning on 4-3 penalties to Arsenal, Paris Saint Germain can celebrate their glorious and deserved victory. Having had to face Monaco in the KO, Chelsea in the round of 16, Liverpool in the quarter they finally faced Bayern in the semi final, which was a close score ultimately winning 6-5 on aggregate. Their last fight against Arsenal was highly anticipated with this being Arsenal first time reaching the final in 20 years.
Arsenal kicked off the score with a 1-0 from Havertz just 6 minutes in giving them the advantage they needed they heavily defended all PSG attempts in the first half. PSG finally level the score with a penalty by Dembele in the second half after a bad tackle from Mosquera on Kvaratskhelia. Yet after 120 minutes 1-1 stayed, leading to extra time and ultimately penalties.
After Eze’s missed penalty going wide, the pressure on Arsenal was more than ever. However Raya made up for it with a shocking save of Mendes. Ultimately it came down to Gabriel for Arsenal’s last chance to win, which unfortunately went over the bar and confirming PSG’s victory.
PSG are now only the second team to win back-to-back titles in Champions League since 1993 era, after Real Madrid. Furthermore the first time a final has been decided on penalty shootout since 2016. This win comes as the third Champions League title win for Luis Enrique having first won with Barcelona in 2015 and last year with PSG being only the second Spanish manager to win three time, ties with Pep Guardiola.
PSG having joined the “greatest of all time” solidifying their European champions title after last years 5-0 thrashing against Inter Milan.
