Clash of titans: PSG vs Bayern

The first leg of this Champions League semi final kicks off midweek with PSG and Bayern Munich taking place at the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris. Unbelievable final score of 5-4 for PSG.

Both these teams are currently top of their home leagues and have already faced each other numerous times. Having met a total of 11 times, Bayern has won 8 of those leaving PSG with only 3 wins. 9 of those times they faced each other has been in Champions League which resulted in 7 wins for Bayern. Looking at PSG, they have scored at least 2 goals in each of their last knockout matches in Champions League. The German powerhouse have had a winning streak scoring a total of 32 goal in their last 9 matches.

The first half starts with Bayern relentlessly attacking PSG. Diaz is tackled by Pacho which leads to an immediate penalty for Bayern just 15 minutes in. Taken and scored by none other than the English striker, Harry Kane, kicking off the scoreboard, 1-0. Kane now has 54 goals across all competitions this season. PSG strike back !! No less than 5 minutes after the penalty, Kvaratskhelia levels the score with a right foot shot that skims the face of the Bayern keeper, Neuer. A stunning header from Joao Neves puts PSG ahead with a 2-1 lead. Bayern though have with no intention in throwing in the towel and equalise the score with a great strike by Olise straight down the middle of the goal just before halftime. With just a minute of extra time added on, PSG are given a penalty and once again back in front with 3-2 thanks to Dembele goal after already having one assist this match.

With the first half ending on 3-2, PSG have no conceded 12 first-half goals in their last 15 matches whilst Bayern have score 21 goals in the first half in only 13 of their last games, the most from any other team. 5 goals with 2 penalties in a wild 45 minutes.

Second half kicks off with PSG on fire, a second goal for Kvaratskhelia smashing it in the back of the net. Followed 2 minutes after with PSG’s 5th goal of the night !! Dembele continues the momentum with a low strike through Upamecano’s legs slightly off the left post and into the goal, leaving Neuer on able to watch the play happen. Bayern fight back and claw their way back up with 2 more back to back goals, Upamecano scores the 3rd goal all the way from 30-yards. Diaz reduced the deficit to only goal now, scoring the 4th of the match for Bayern and despite a momentary VAR check the goal stands !

With neither side giving up and taking chances right until the end, the final score of 5-4 stays. Easily one of the best games this season, these two giant teams both clearly have what it takes to win this Championship and are hungry for it.

The second leg takes place next week at Allianz stadium in Munich.
