Meeting once again this time in the Champions League semi final Atletico and Arsenal face off ending with an unfortunate 1-1.
Looking back this year’s season, Arsenal previously beat Atletico 4-0 at the Emirates this season. However Arsenal have only won two of their last seven matches with Saka having just come back to the squad after an Achilles injury. On the other hand the team from Madrid have scored 3 or more goals in their last six out of eight matches at home, having previously knocked out Barcelona in the quarter finals. Yet looking back at Simeone’s season he has conceded all four home Champions League matches with their biggest victory scoring five against Tottenham in knockouts. As well as having just lost out to Real Sociedad in the Copa del Rey final after going all the way to penalty shoutouts.
After a 9 goal match last night between PSG and Bayern, tonight is a tough act to follow and still waiting for a impactful first half moment 44 minute and a penalty for Arsenal by Gyokeres wakes the game for a lackluster first half. An immediate decision by the ref starts the scoreboard 1-0 for Arsenal.

Second half starts still w a 1-0 however afyer a chaotic play and attempt by Atetico, Llorrenti takes another a shot which is blocked by a handball from Arsenal, and after a VAR check the penalty is given and taken by Alvarez. Equalising the score to 1-1. Atleti have been denied multiple times tonight and once again now denied by the woodwork to take the lead. After another potential penalty for the Gunners, the referee takes a second look at VAR and ultimately no penalty is given leaving the draw. With almost 4 times more total shots and shots on target for Atleti, they can’t seem to break through Arsenals defence and get a clear shot.
With 7 minutes off added time, both teams like exhausted yet Atletico is still pushing for an advtange before the second leg. The only real saving grace for Arsenal this match has been David Raya who has saved them for a complete defeat with Atleti clearly dominating the majority of the game.

2 goals, 2 penalties, both teams will next face each other in the second leg of this Champions League semi final, this time at Emirates stadium with no one taking the lead. What will be a tough night and place for Atletico to win against Arsenal who will be on home turf. However as seen throughout this championship is to not underestimate any team. This will take place next Tuesday, just before the second leg between PSG and Bayern.
